Summer soakings come at a cost in Brevard -- mosquitoes
County battles disease-carrying critters from all angles
Helicopters counterattacked this week, spraying back mosquitoes triggered by this summer's first flooding storms.
The main battlefields: the south beaches, Merritt Island and anywhere the salt marsh mosquito reigns supreme. They swarm so thick from the Mosquito Lagoon marshes that fishermen say they sound like bees.
"We've already adulticided and larvacided more acres than we did all of last year," said Chris Richmond, a biologist with Brevard County Mosquito Control.
