All of us here at Falcon work every day to make your home a safe environment for you and your family. Because Falcon is led by a top entomologist, we like to treat all pest issues with great care and a scientific approach. However, we recently discovered a new form of pest control, available to only the ridiculously wealthy.

Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has come under scrutiny recently for squandering state resources by building a 1,150-room palace on protected land. Many are outraged by this elaborate display of mammon, however Erdogan has a perfectly logical explanation: He needed a new office because his old one had cockroaches.

This seems like a perfect excuse. Let’s just hope his new palace stays pest free. We’d hate for him to get roaches again.

Please feel free to watch the video, it contains no images of insects being eaten. It does however show carnivorous Pitcher Plants (think Venus Fly Trap) with insects comfortably nestled within their "mouth". There are nearly 600 species of carnivorous plants worldwide, which is another way of saying that there are a bunch of live meat eating plants on our strange planet. Enjoy these beautiful and off Pitcher Plants in the great video below.

BBC News recently published an in-depth feature article on the psychological reasons humans feel fright when they see a cockroach. The following is a quote from the story that is particularily illuminating:

Roaches invade our homes and make those intimate spaces their own. As physical embodiments of filth and germs, they show that for all of our fortifications against dirt and disease, those efforts are ultimately futile. “They’ve really figured out how to exploit the opportunities we create, and in doing so, developed behaviours and life histories that prevent us from controlling them,” says Jeff Lockwood, a professor of natural sciences and humanities at the University of Wyoming. “In a sense, we loathe that which we foster.” Our very existence enables them to thrive."

The excellent piece goes on to detail examples of famous authors and myths involving the cockroach. The authors of the story go on to detail that is actually an "evolutionary aversion" to the filthiness, greasiness, and disease-carrying ways of the cockroach. Please do yourself and read the excellent story prepared by the BCC.
