If you're planning on heading to the beach and curling up with a good book this weekend, you may have a new obstacle in your way. Libraries in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Pinellas Park now have bed bugs!

The first thing that comes to mind when most people hear the words ”bed bugs” is a Hotel room, however many libraries throughout the country have been battling these pests, including the Orange County Public Library in Downtown Orlando. Bed Bugs are known as hitch hikers due to how easily they can attach themselves to one’s clothing or luggage and settle in any environment it sees fit. Libraries, restaurants, movie theaters and offices among other locations are particularly vulnerable due to the nooks and crannies, like fabric upholstery and the binding of books, as well as the high volume of people that frequent them.
